My rooster decided to attack me. He has made attempts on my parents but never on me! Well, he did and at first I wasn't for sure what to do but I took right care of it. I am a huge animal lover and sympathizer but I know it was the best for him and me. I kicked at him and then chased him. I cornered him in the coop and picked him up to carry him around. He just sat there but when he heard the hens he wanted down but did I let him? Oh, no I did not!

I held him and when he calmed then he was sat down. I think I took care of this well. By the way all through this I am either yelling at him or talking to him. The neighbors probably think I am crazy!

yes, I do expect him to try it again but I am prepared.

Good for you! Most people back away and that makes the roo think he's won. So now when you go out there, walk towards him and make him move move move, just keep walking, and nudging with your foot. You don't have to kick. The object of this is to show him that you are the top roo and can dictate to him.

Good job!

Oh, thanks. I am kinda glad I don't need to kick though I didn't kick hard at all. I was more or less reaching out at him and pushing him. I was quite nervous when it started because he got me with his wings and when I started to step he stared at my feet and was weaving back and forth!! I really couldn't believe he was doing that. But now that it's done I hope he just calms down. I will keep an eye out just to make sure. I will make sure to step into his space. Thanks.

My 4 year old daughter was getting chased by our RIR rooster for a while and she was terrified of him. I gave her a pep talk and told her she needed to show big red who was boss. I told her to stand up straight and walk confidently into the coop and if big red came towards her to chase him. It worked! Now she has no problem going in to collect eggs. Its all a mental game of who is most confident. Good luck with your roo.

Good for you!

I had a rooster a few weeks ago that was terrorizing my 8 year old and suprisingly my DH. He tried it once with me but I gave him a good chase and he didn't do it again. Unfortunately, in my situation he was really hurting my 8 year old and with me also having a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old niece that stays with us I just couldn't take the chance of him injuring them.

So he started out like this:

(He's the black roo in the middle)

And ended up like this:

My DD still has some of his tail feathers, and boy was he tasty.

I just don't tolerate mean roo's. Luckily his second in command has turned into the perfect gentleman to his ladies, great hawk watcher, and backs right down from us.

Great that you did it. I think it is about who can make who run or move. I feel like if you fight them , they might have more reason to stay and fight. Of course danger to a child is an exception, but sometimes it works out for kids too.
