Taking eggs to the Philippines - am I nuts?

Just curious about the saddled air sacs u mentioned, I have done some extensive reading in the last month on the effects of pressure differential in hatching eggs and how it affects hatch rates, I ran acrossed some articles printed by ISA poultry a Hendrix genetic giant from the E.U that flew in 10000 eggs to C.R from France and Spain to establish there highbred laying flock in 2007 and they reported a 60% hatch rate after air transport down from 95% from there hatcheries in the E.U but i guess when u are talking that type of commercial volume a 35% loss is already factored in ,A loss hobbyist like us can't afford to swallow

you have to factor it in. I go for 40% hatch rate. terrible but better to be happy with results.


i ship a minimum of 18-24 eggs per breed. I figure I need 4 hens to be able to develop the breed there. this gives me a decent odds ratio

@ 40% That will be 7 outta 18 and a fifty fifty roll of the dice on sex of hatchlings still leaves room for four cocerels leaving three hens to get established ,,, I think I need to bump up to 18 from 12 that will kinda kill me on incubator space in the hova ,,, I can pray for one of my other girls goes broody in the next tree weeks,,,,fingers crossed

Another bator would be nice but I am only looking to establish three breeds here with the goal fo breeding a hybrid layer from my foundation stock with the third breed being a preservation and expansion of my home state heritage fowl,, I hope this will be a one shot deal to get me established breeding stock ,,, again fingers crossed

My advice is take 18 of each bread. You can put 54 eggs in a hova bator without a turner. Manually turn them for 4 days (they should not be turned for 3 days to settle the air cells) candle at 7 days and toss really obvious clears

That's what I'm gonna do after talking this morning and running the numbers @40% 12 is not a viable number ! I only want to haul eggs one time for this grand experiment but if all goes well with this group I will try some peafowl and bronze Turks on my 4th of July trip , I just finished your first thread all 48 pages and was stunned to see the simalaritys in our adventures, here the gas is 6 bucks a gal deisel 5 I too am @ 10 degrees off the equator the government is toataly corrupt from top to bottom and every one who has never left the states to live in a third word country has no clue what it takes to get it done day in and day out where the things we used to have as common place are not available or to expensive to buy I did a top ten things u take for granted as a spoiled American list two years into this place and u would not believe the backlash I took for calling my friends at home spoiled Americans ! The locals here watched the u.s pez election like they were going to the polls they were worried about another downturn and poising there two dollar a hour jobs that have to cover every thing for there family's including food housing gas clothing it is just unreal to grasp it on vacation , the pacific coast hear is simply a world heritage site but a mile off the beach 12 people are living in two rooms the health care is awfull roads and infastructure away from the turismo zones is unbeliably bad but the C.R people are the most humble folks you will ever meet my tico buddy here tells me when I shake my head in wonder ,,, remember buddy u can't miss something u never had !

The consensus is the same here although quite a few are dissatisfied with the government at present they as a whole will not make the effort for change it has been the same since independence from Spain they are to humble and laid back for change pura vida as they say pure life
