Hello Folks!
I've been reading posts from BYC for over a year but never officially joined until today. As my obsession with chickens grows, I can't help but want to be part of a community of other chicken lovers
I got my first little chickies in late summer of 2011 and enjoyed every moment of raising them. I got 7 and all were a different breed (Ameracauna, Barred Rock, Wyandotte, RIR, Buff Orp, Speckled Sussex, and Partridge Rock). I learned the hard way that mixing breeds can be dangerous however when my Rhode Island Red became a bully after more than a year, and systematically wore down and killed off my beloved Buff Orpington
((((((( There is more to that story but I won't go into it right now.
Anyway I just got 2 new chicks at Easter (A buff Cochin and an Australorp). They seem to be meshing into the flock well which makes me very happy.
We live on a small farm in central North Carolina... because of hawks, foxes, dogs, cats, and coyotes they are kept in a large enclosure almost always.
Guess that's it! I look forward to getting to know some of you over the coming years!
