Tale of the stubborn Guinea and the mean owl....

I purchased Guineafowl and Chicks at the same time and raised them together. They have not wandered, they also typically go in the coop at night. Sometimes some sleep in a tree if I didn't stay up late enough for them to come down before I close the coop. I love them, we had issues with mice, rats, and snakes before we purchased them. There are 10 of them and they are noisy but but well worth it.

I have my "guinea getting stick" always laying next to their pen. It is a looooooooong piece of PVC that I use to haze them out of the trees if a few decide to roost early before I lock them in. Things are changing with the season. I had to get the stick yesterday for the first time in probably nine months. I am committed to being more determined than my guineas.

I have a solar-powered, motion-activated light in the coop. I call to them and then feed every night. They are also accustomed to being herded with branches like R2Elk says.

My first batch of guineas would put themselves to bed every night without fail. I just came along anytime afterwards to shut the door. Not this batch. If I know I can't be home at dusk to put them up, I don't let them out that morning (my birds have a pen attached to the coop).

If I miscalculated my timing and missed the window to get the birds in, I have been on a ladder in a rainstorm getting the darn birds off the coop roof. I used a branch to individually lift and lower birds to carry them into the coop on July 4th. You just have to be more determined than a guinea.
