Today was my scheduled day to donate platelets at City of Hope. This is a two hour appointment lying in a recliner chair. Instead of watching a movie as I usually do, I took my new Backyard Poultry magazine with me to read. The women in that room never stopped asking me questions about my chickens, how I got into them, where do I keep them...etc. etc. etc. My magazine got passed around to patients and nurses. My subscription cards from the inside of the magazine got torn out. These women were so excited to "talk chicken" that the two hours flew by. Tomorrow one of the ladies is coming over for coffee and to see my chicks and coop. I am emailing pictures to 3 of the other ladies. I gave everyone this website's address and told them how knowledgable you all are. It's been a great morning!

Same thing happened to me on Saturday night. Went to a dinner party and the conversation just kept coming back to my chickens: why do you have them; how long have you had them; do you have a rooster; how old are they; have you named them; when will they start laying; can you keep them in the city; and on and on and on.

LOL, thought this was a post about a chicken that started talking....

Wow, what a small world. I work at a blood center and we are having a meeting for a couple of days. At dinner I talked about my chickens coming this Friday and everyone was so interested and made me promise to email pics when I get them.

P.S. Good for you giving platelets.

This is my twentieth year working in blood banking and it is so gratifying.

We are having company from out of state for the weekend, I know I will be talking about my chickens/ducks/guineas the whole time. I hope they don't decide to leave early!

Thanks. Mom taught me to give early on. She was B rh neg. and only gave when specifically called. Sometimes at 3AM for car accidents etc. I have given blood for over 30 years now. Good veins, so platelets are "a piece of cake"..lol
