Tall Homemade Cabinet Style Incubator Heat/Fan Question

It may depend on the type fan blade that is on the motor but I deal with electrical and A/C supply houses and I can normally buy a fan blade with a different "pitch" and it will change the cfm that is moved by the same motor most of the chicken people that raised me never fixed anything that is not broke most did not use the right part they used the one they had and adjusted the other parts to get it to work when building something I mostly just copy what has worked for others if your fan is moving too much Air you may have to create more surface area on you water tank for your bator to work right in making your tank larger you just increased your thermal mass and your bator may hold temps better now. I wood try and find out what size resovoir GQF uses and then design around that and how big the motor is and what kind of blade they have etc.

On my cabinet my fan came from a thrift store my heat will be 4- 50 watt light bulbs my t-stat is an electronic version made by johnson controls I will probally have a wafer as a back up and my cabinet is A/C plywood uninsulated because wood is a fairly good insulator

I'm going partly by all the redwood and mahogany and just plain pine bators that have worked for so many years as hard as it is to believe I do not want my bator airtight being in the A/C repair industry I understand the importance of air changes LOL expelling CO2 and keeping a good supply of Oxygen coming into the bator the vent holes on my cabinet are 1" in diameter and have little sheet metal shutters that I made from flashing like sheet metal.to each his own I guess good luck with your design

Thanks. That's what I needed to know. Looks like my double-105's I was planning on may be the ticket. Time will tell!

Matching the CO2 content of the air inside the incubator to the air outside the incubator would seem to be a good starting point. I actually remember reading a study done on that very subject, dont remember what the study said, but I know theres a study about it.

You can also change air flow by moveing the fan blade in and out of the hole. It will pull more air through the more you put the blade in the hole.

If you false back is just 1/2" or 3/4" plywood I was always taught just to center the middle of the blade with the middle of the false back. This mostly applys to the evaporator coils and condensor coils I work on each day
