I've had my hamster, Rhino, for awhile now, and there's sometimes where she's a little friendly and will climb onto my hand, but always tries to run away from me. I'll hold treats on my hand, and she'll just stuff them in her cheeks and run away! I'm not really sure how to tame her. Any ideas?

My hamsters always ran away when I went to pick them up. They were usually friendly once I had them out of the cage though! I would just handle her as much as possible, without stressing her too much and eventually she will become friendly.

My hamster, I got last year out of the 'dwarf female' bin... later he developed bumps, Hehehe! Was really shy of being held when I first got him.. after a while I gave up trying to pick him up.. but every time I fed him, because of the way my cage door is, I had to have a handful of food and drop it in. After a few months he would run up to my hand every time I brought him food.. sometimes put his little paws up on my hand while I was dropping it.. but I still didn't want to scare him so I just took my hand away... then a few months ago he decided on his own, I suppose, that the hand must be good.. and now everytime I bring him food.. as soon as I drop it hes up on my hand and he just sits there.. I cant take him out because my puppy is often present and interested in whats going on.. so I just hold my hand in there with hamster trying to take a nap on it until my arm gets tired of the awkward position... The hard part now is trying to get him off! LOL! I try to do it without hurting his feelings.. but sometimes he thinks its a better idea to run up my arm instead.

I kind of want to get a girlie and have little hamster babies like I did when I was a kid.. but I would probably need a seperate cage and I dunno how easy it would be to find them homes... temptations, temptations, in the form of baby animals.
