Taming older chickens

meissel, I'm glad you are learning to worm your way into Brownie's heart (pun intended, but hey! it's almost 4 in the morning

Another tip I just remembered. Find a good bowl to use and designate it as the chook's treat bowl. They'll come to know that bowl and will start mobbing you to get a peek at what's in that bowl.
Oh! and you must try yogurt! Plain, low-fat yogurt. Your chickens are older so they may be afraid of it at first. Once they start to eat it, stand back! They love to eat it, but they don't like it on their beaks. They'll fling it everywhere. It's a hoot to watch.

Two more exciting suggestions from gritsar! I will try them both. The yogurt is very unexpected, but if you said caviar I'd give it a try right now.

I let everybody out of the coop last evening. They were confused by it at first and one of them took way to long figuring out how to get out. In her defense, she was distracted by the hens right on the other side of the coop fence and was trying to squeeze through the chain link. As it got dark they all came back into the run and then to their coop. It was a big event for us. Its been that kind of week.

Thanks for everything

I take a stool or milk crate, etc., and sit with them and have some of their favorite treats handy. I give them a treat and before you know it they are in my lap. They love bread so I give them some small pieces. Be patient. Let them come up to you.
