We found by introducing our birds and new chicks in an enclosed space that they then see it as home and naturally flock there, they prefer natural tree branches with thicker foothold where they balance better,we also put branches leading up to the roosts so the smaller ones can walk up, and stepping roosts so they get up more easily to the desired higher roosting area, this is all above a metal frame work, it was pointed out to me when I used ibc metal frames for this purpose that I should lag the metal with old strips of shirts or bed sheets or duvets so if the metal became too cold in the winter they did not freeze their feet, this did prove useful and they prefer the lagged metal to non lagged and prefer the wrist thickness branches the most. When mothers have chicks they prefer the young get up off the ground as soon as possible in my experience
