Would anyone not recommend installing a tap light for my chicken coop? I need something that will be battery or solar powered to light my coop up in the evening to make it more attractive for my hens to roost there as the sun sets. I don’t have an outlet close enough to run a extension cord to a power source. Any other suggestions?

Are they not naturally roosting?

I have only had that problem with chicks that are too young and stupid to know better... herd them in or catch and toss them into the coop every night for a week until they learn...

Other reasons for not roosting is if the coop is too hot, not enough ventilation. Or maybe way too crazy dark, no windows?

I do like light in my coops for winter... so they can have a 10 hour day...

We found by introducing our birds and new chicks in an enclosed space that they then see it as home and naturally flock there, they prefer natural tree branches with thicker foothold where they balance better,we also put branches leading up to the roosts so the smaller ones can walk up, and stepping roosts so they get up more easily to the desired higher roosting area, this is all above a metal frame work, it was pointed out to me when I used ibc metal frames for this purpose that I should lag the metal with old strips of shirts or bed sheets or duvets so if the metal became too cold in the winter they did not freeze their feet, this did prove useful and they prefer the lagged metal to non lagged and prefer the wrist thickness branches the most. When mothers have chicks they prefer the young get up off the ground as soon as possible in my experience

Ours are not in a building but an old greenhouse frame with wire and chicken wire and recycled heavy duty plastic from an ex display marque, wind protection they huddle together against cold which encourages roosting, does not answer your exact question but may help with aspects of the issue, to be honest I have not used the issue you mention do do not think my opinion has much value, speculation rather than informed insight being mere opinion with no knowledge and wasteful, will follow this thread in case others give you more valuable direct insight.
