So I am on day 23 now ( I thought it was day 24 but i guess the rules have changed.)

I have been LITERALLY DREAMING about baby chicks hatching, but there has been no action in the bator whatsoever. I've pretty much given up but am keeping the humidity up at least until Saturday.

Anywho last night I was awoken by a tap tAp tapping sound. "tappity tap tapp. Taptap. Tap. " I ran over to the bator but there wasn't anything going on. I was CERTAIN the noise came from there. Almost 100% positive. It was 6 am and the boyfriend had already gone to work- so I just went back to bed. The darn cats had been up all night running around and making noise, so I just figured I was delerious from lack of sleep and obsessing over these eggs. Got up at 8 for work and there was once again no action. My temps had somehow dropped to 98, so I turned up the heat a bit. It jumped to 102 in ten minutes so I put the knob back down to where it was and forgot to check it before work. Stupid tapping. I've given up on these eggs, then crud likethat happens and gets me all worked up again.

Well my darling boyfriend calls me on my lunch and says, " hey did you hear that tapping noise coming out of the bator last night? I stuck me ear next to it and thought I heard the tapping coming from inside.."

AUGH! are we BOTH crazy? Do they tap before they are ready to pip? Like I said- I saw NOTHING this morning...

that tapping is someone in one of them eggs trying to pip and break through! You are not crazy. you will hear tapping and even cheeping noises from them before you see anything. Just remember do not open the incubator! as tempting as it is

Good luck. and oh I've seen chicks who the temps got to chilly for them and hatch as late as day 26. Give them till 26th day, if not action at all, or you get some hatch but not all, open bator spray the eggs with warm water and then candle. if you still see movement, pop them back in. no movement, I'd say they are quitters.

Good luck!

I'm sure they tap while trying to pip, My incubators have always had fans, so I can't hear small noises over the fan noise... Don't give up yet!

Last night I went to remove the two eggs I though were Duds, I opened the incubator and one was pipped where I couldn't see it, so I shut it quickly and this morning woke up to a zipping chickie, and by the time I left for work it was out.... Now I can't wait to go home to my little late pipper....

NO WAY. someone might be alive in there????

but now I'm kinda scared, if we heard tapping in the middle of the night and there was still no pip this morning, could the chick have suffocated??

However, since it isn't on this thread I shall post Nevermore.

Well it's been at least 12 hours since we thought we heard tapping noises and still no pips. I know it takes up to two days for a chick to hatch after a pip, but would something like this happening be normal? Like MAYBE hearing tapping and 12 hours later still no pips? I'm very worried that they've broken the membrane tapping and are now out of air. *sigh*
