Did my chick die in the egg after I herd it chirping, and felt it tapping?

So on Thursday night I was checking out one of my eggs that was on lockdown(I was just checking for pips and talking to it) and I felt it tapping on it's shell! So I was exspecting it to pip that night, but next morning no pip. I could still feel the tapping on the shell and the chirping but nothing had happened to the shell! So I waited all of Friday, and on Friday night it was the same, there was no pip! When Saterday morning came I checked it for pips, but I didn't feel anything! Like no tapping, or chirping is it possible that the shell is too thick? Or could it have just given up? Should I try to open it up and see if the chick is still alive?

I lost one that was chirping. If I had it to do over again I would have tried to give it an air hole. I'm new to this. Sorry for your loss
