I had a bubble butt hatch from the wrong end and one of his outer toes was still bent backwards this morning so i taped it straight, how long should i leave it taped?

Hmm I have put whole shoes on one peachick the day it hatched and left the shoes on just about all day and then the feet were good.

I would say about a day just to be safe.

You get the peachick and put it's feet flat out on a plastic top to say a cool whip container. You use a marker to trace around the feet on the plastic then you cut out the shoes you drew. I like using masking tape to tape each toe down. I use 1 piece of tape per toe. Then to prevent slipping we put 2 or 3 circular felt stickers on the bottom of the shoes for traction. The felt stickers were like for furniture like what you put on coasters or something to keep things from scratching a surface. They worked great.

Minx her feet are fine it is just one toe, i got a double jointed hen here and she passes it on to her offspring, but this one would not stay unbent like the double jointed ones so i taped it straight as a matter a fact last year i had to tape a double jointed chicks crocked feet and those toes still twisted back under the tape but they were fine cause they were not fixed like this one.
Thanks for the visual it is very helpful.

Zaz,,it is easier to just tape the entire foot as in Minxs pics above. Otherwise I don't think anything you use could offer enough support or stay on long enuf to do any good. I use clear 2" wide shipping tape. Cut off a piece about 6" long, lay on counter sticky side up,position the entire foot in the correct position then push each toe to the sticky tape. Use your fingers to hold that leg of the peahick so it is immobile.and make sure the tape is under the entire foot just behind the little toe on the very back. Now slowly pick up the other half of the tape and fold over the top of the foot and pressing down between each toe. Then press around the ends of the toes, then cut the tape so maybe 1/4" extends past the ends of the front of the toes. Leave on 2 days or if the chick doesn't manage to lose it,leave on as long as it stays. In years gone by when we had toe issues if I waited until the 2nd or 3rd day to tape the results wasn't as good compared to if done within the first half day after hatching.

Frenchy in this case it would not have worked, the toe would just work it's way backwards under the tape, it has to be splinted and that is working i just want to make sure a couple days would get it done, it will always bend backward sometimes, it is double jointed, looks straight untill it is put in a position where it is bent backwards

I know it is just one toe, I was just posting the photo with an explanation because dikbiscuit seemed interested in what kind of shoes I used.
