I HAVE 7 HAPPY, PASTURED, LAYERS. ONE PLOPPED OUT WHAT LOOKS LIKE A TAPEWORM, DEAD, AT LEAST 5 INCHES LONG, TAPEDERED TAIL, ICK! IF THEY ALL HAVE THIS, AM I TO ASSUME THEY HAVE OTHER WORMS TOO? IVE READ ON THIS FORUM VALBAZEN IS THE BEST TO USE IN THIS SITUATION....THIS ALSO MEANS WE DONT GET TO EAT OUR EGGS FOR A LONG TIME? The chickens dont act ill, but now that ive seen the worm i feel they are ticking time bombs. also, Valbazen is expensive for 7 chickens. Does anyone know why the tapeworm was expelled in the first place? Yikes!

Tapeworms are flat and segmented. Are you sure you didnt see a soft egg shell deposited that may appear to resemble a tapeworm? I've had this happen in a couple of my hens. Whole or strands of tapeworms are normally not excreted unless treated with a wormer, even then you may not see them. Tapeworm segments are the norm seen in feces prior to treating for tapeworms.
Here's a pic of a soft shelled egg: Note that there are no segments.

DAWG 53 The "glob" had a large part at one end that looked like the one in one of your pics posted on byc; with a long skinny part coming off the side. That part looked almost hollow. It was encased in a gel like substance.
If its worms, can chickens just live with them? I had just used a poultry powder on all of them because two of them had mites/lice. I almost feel relieved that it may be a soft egg, but there wasnt any shell at all.
My girls are 1 1/2 yrs to oldest is 6.
They have never been wormed. Everything we do is organic. What should I use? Thanx..
