So it’s been terribly rainy and windy the last few days, and as the hutch is pretty open (3 wire walls) I wanted to prevent drafts because it’s 48 but feels much colder with wind. This means the poor birds have been in pretty much darkness for the last 2 days. And as expected, egglaying has vanished. I know they’ll kick it back into gear when it’s warmer tomorrow and they can enjoy sun, but is this short period of darkness hurting their health? I don’t want to depress them

our quails have a tarp on their pen at night and when it's raining. They still lay eggs and are very healthy. They didn't lay over the winter tho. To keep the wind out we have reused windows propped against their cage.

Oh that’s a relief! I think I was working myself up for nothing! I was convinced I had given them seasonal depression. Crazy quail mom here 😂
