I just love that extra skin on the top lip that hangs over each side of the mouth.....my saint bernard puppy has it too.

Wow, we actually went to TSC and bought a small bag of the bison TOTW to see if our pup would like it too. She has stomach issues and has been eating Science Diet. She absolutely LOVES it! She practically rips the bowl out of DH's hand! I think im going to stick to this stuff too!

I have 4 Jack Russells and a Bouvier Des Flandres, I buy the 20 lb bag and it lasts me almost 2 weeks, I feed less and they get filled up faster.

I love Bison TOTW. I switched Diesel to it a year or so ago. He used to get "pimples" under his chin and "hotspots" on is hind legs. After a month or so of being on the food, I noticed a drastic improvement, and now about a year into it, they're all gone.

I think you'll love the results, and I think Buddy will love the taste!

Good Luck!!

Thanks all for the comments....

Alabamachick, thanks for the heads-up on the de-tox. I'll see how it goes with just the TOTW and hopefully see some results. I found a can that holds almost exactly 2 cups, which is about 1/4 cup more than what is recommended. He seems to do well at that and could use a bit more weight on him. I'll watch it and be sure he doesn't start looking more like me.

This evening my wife fed him his "can" of TOTW and once he was through he did the "hit the bowl with the paw" trick. Naturally my wife figured he wanted some more, but I was hesitant. Anyhow, she ended up putting maybe 1/2 a cup down for him (in addition to the 2 cups he had just ate)...he smelled of it and walked off. I think he realized he was full and content...the 1/2 cup is still sitting in the bowl. I think my wife is catching on now.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the raw egg!

Akane, bumpershoot, lockedhearts, Skyesrocket, I think ya'll have hit it on the head...it appears to be taking less to "satisfy" Buddy...and it's staying with him longer. I'm beginning to feel better about the cost of the food, too. I figure if Buddy is going to be eating 4 cups of TOTW a day a 30# bag will last quiet a while for him. And, while he's eating it he gets good nutrition and hopefully some (if not all) of his $kin issues will go away...there seems to be several benefits involved here.

Akane, thanks for the link to the satin balls...already printed it out. What color is your Akita? I had a female 20 years ago...brindle by the name of Lady.

lockedhearts, it's interesting but the Pacific Stream has less protein than the other recipes. I wonder if that is why your dogs aren't as fond of it as they are of the other ones.

bumpershoot, switching between the different recipes would there be an issue with the different amounts of protein? I'm going by the 60-80 pound range that states to feed 3 - 3 2/3 cups a day. This is stated for each recipe, but the Pacific Stream has 7% less protein...does that matter?

Skyesrocket, don't worry...I gave Buddy the boiled egg just as I was leaving for work. If somebody else came home during the day *they* would have to deal with it!!!

I think your right about why he wasn't hungry. Either that or he has dad trained to add garnishments.

I think if I had a gassy dog that I wouldn't be giving it hard boiled eggs though.

Ed, Buddy sounds like a very lucky dog.

Weeeeeellll, I don't really believe in luck, but...

The Story of Buddy

Buddy was my wife's nephews dog. My MIL lives beside us in a mobile home that we sat up for her. As things happen the nephew came to stay with my MIL for a while...and brought his dog (Buddy) with him. Unfortunately, Buddy had basically been on a chain all his life and ended up living under the front deck of the mobile home hooked up to a chain. But...Buddy was a good chain breaker and would frequently escape for a mad run around the property. Never hurt anything, just enjoyed his short stints at freedom. He would bark when you would come up to him and when I was mowing the grass at my MIL's he would bark and raise a ruckus at me...to be honest, I was a bit afraid of him.

Well, that winter it was cold...colder than normal. My wife was feeling sorry for Buddy and decided to carry a blanket over there for him. Buddy was fairing pretty good but really didn't have a blanket. The one my wife picked up was a pink one (it marked him for life). As mentioned earlier Buddy, was pretty good at escaping and it wasn't long before Buddy showed up at our house (about 100 yards away) with the pink blanket in his mouth...he was moving in!!!

But, my wife's nephew didn't know it, hadn't agreed to it, and basically hadn't even thought about it. It was basically Buddy's idea (we didn't know he was moving in, either). Well, my wife has a heart of gold and went to talk to her nephew about letting Buddy move in with us. While they were talking my wife got a speck of dust or something in her eye and her eyes started watering up...looked like she was about to cry. Well, seeing this her nephew thought she was about to break down or something and quickly agreed to let Buddy come live with us as long as he had visitation rights. To this day, the guys at work kid my wife that she guilted her nephew out his dog.

The End (of this part)

Buddy is notorious for hitting the party circuit and usually has a pretty girl with him...
