Hey all! I purchased a “natural” cut heal spray from Tractor Supply that contains tea tree oil and other anti microbial ingredients. I initially purchased to spray on my hen who got attacked by a dog (and is now doing better). It was expensive and so I lightly sprayed it in my nesting boxes on the wood before putting fresh hay..was that a bad idea? My hope was to use it to ward off insects and I love the smell!!

Chickens have sensitive respiratory systems. I would not deliberately use any scented products near the birds. I know some people are keen on adding herbs to nests and such, but that's for human sensibilities, the birds have no need of it.

Tea tree oil may be toxic to animals, I've seen arguments both ways. I've actually developed a sensitivity to it after safely using it for years (it causes my skin to peel off at point of contact), so use with caution.
