I am a second grade teacher and will be hatching egg for the 3rd time. I would like to add a little variety to my flock so the class can see variation within the species. Does anyone know what hatcheries sell actual eggs for incubation. The school purchases white leg horns but I am looking for a type of chicken that produces a different colored egg and that will look different when hatched. They could be black or have different feathers. Most of my kids think all chicks are yellow and fluffy

Any help would be appreciated. I will be setting my eggs in April.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

!

If you got to the Index and look under hatching eggs for sale, you'll find some great varieties of eggs from BYCers. And the prices are pretty good, too.

I bet if you post under the "Wanted to Buy" section and say it's for students, you'll find generous souls who will donate, or at least ship for the cost of shipping only. I'd be happy to donate green, blue, and pinkish eggs if you can help cover shipping. These are for EE chickens, so no telling what color the chicks will be.

I am also a 2nd grade teacher! We are hatching ducklings though! This year we are doing Call ducks and Cayuga Ducks. I too chose the Cayugas so they could see different kinds. The calls will be yellow, yellow/black, and the cayugas will be all black when they hatch. We are on our 25th day tomorrow and taking them out of the egg turner to be ready for hatch day on Monday!!! We are all very excited! Good luck with your hatching!!!!!!!
