This is all twelve chicks. :)

This is the chipmunk one.
Two of them weren't a full day old last night, when I feather sexed them. Tonight, the chipmunk one and one of the others were undetermined, and seven of the others looked like definite pullets.
I hope that's right and that the chipmunk one and the other undetermined one are both pullets!
I'll keep you posted. :)

This is the first chance I've had to post this, but.....

My first chick hatched!!!
My first chick hatched!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I'm just so excited!!! He's all alone. He hatched overnight and made such a racket that he woke up me and DH. lol

I don't think that any of the others will hatch. =( But one hatching means I didn't do it all wrong; although 17 failing to hatch means I did make a lot of mistakes.
I was discouraged last night, but I'm not giving up on hatching (which I wanted to do last night and this morning). It's so overwhelming the first time!!!
I put the 12 chicks that my friend hatched for me in the brooder on the back porch. That way they'll be exposed to whatever's in the dirt around here (as I've had chickens in there, who weren't sick, and they've gotten dirt in it, which I haven't swept out). Anyway, I feather sexed them, but I'm being told that feather sexing only works if breeding is done very carefully so as to create a feather-sexable chick. Oh, well; that's too bad, b/c according to feather sexing, I have 8 pullets. I hope I don't have 8 cockerels.

Thanks!!!
I'm kind of partial. I'm afraid he's already a pet whether he's a he or a she. =(
I wanted to only keep pullets and eat all the cockerels, but he stands out too much to just blend in with the rest of the chicks.
Oh, well, I guess Snoodle gets her own personal rooster later on.

Beautiful! Congrats!

Thank you. I'm afraid it's a boy, and I'm afraid he's going to be a pet.
I know I can't keep all the chickens I hatch as pets, but he's my first and I can't help it.

So, I might put him and Snoodle in their own little flock one day (this year) and have a pet couple and then let them hatch LOs to their hearts' content.
