Teaching To Use New Nesting Boxes-How To Do It?

Wow, great info, very interesting, maybe in the new coop in a few months....

Thanks everyone for the input. After discussing this with my husband maybe we should just let the doghouse be the egglaying area and screw the nesting boxes. The necessary requirements for a good laying spot seem to be met as for it being dark and quiet and non-trafficked. The doghouse is suspended on planks about waist high with a dropdown side wall that allows for easy egg removal. Why am I trying to make this more difficult? I want my chickens happy. I'm not about what's convenient for me!

With that said, lets admit that it is okay to have both, i.e., that which works for you and for the cluckers.
Indeed, that is what you should always strive for. It is the height of our intelligence, our highest purpose, to improve things to suit our needs. It is what sets us apart from chickens , for example.
But it sounds as if you have gotten to the best of compromises, by seeing the benefits that already exist ion your particular situation. The way you tell it, it's both efficient for you and chicken friendly for the birds.

The coolest part is that you didnt even have to work at it... the chickens figured it out for you! Sweeeeeeet!
