Yes, absolutely some roos can be sweet! Most of it depends individual temperaments, but you can do your part by handling him a lot and making sure he trusts you while not letting him push you around.

Will he get along with our current rooster? We have an Ameracauna roo that we took in to be with our five laying hens. He was injured by another rooster in his old flock so our neighbor asked if we would like to take him. He has adjusted well to living with us and has made himself at home with our girls.

We have seven chickens altogether in our new batch, so if this Austrolorp is a rooster that leaves six pullets. So in total that would make eleven hens and two roosters. Is that a good ratio?
