Just had to share...One of my (14 week old today) Khaki Campbell males has decided that he's grown up now. I saw him trying to mate one of the females yesterday. It was quite comical to watch, since he wasn't exactly coordinated. But he sure kept trying.

One thing I did notice is that he was courting the same female every time...Is it possible that they have paired off? I have 2 males and 3 females and am wondering what the dynamics will end up being if they choose specific mates.

Well, they are boys, so they will get around, but typically I find that they will have a favorite girl. It can be kinda cute.

Ducks have an easier time mating in water, but can manage on land too . . . it is just a little harder for them. Not sure if that was a factor.

They were in the water. I had just refilled their kiddie pool. Hoping to have their pond done in the next few weeks. I just thought it was funny watching him do his mating dance and then try to get busy and keep falling off. She was very tolerant of him. That's part of why I thought they might being pairing off, since she didn't seem to mind his advances at all.

Mojo, my pekin x blue swed. has his two favorite girls, Stencil and Akai, the runners, it's so cute, Akai is sitting a nest of 5 eggs (mallards), an when she comes off the nest, the first thing she does is run up to Mojo like "AMG HAI!"

Big Lenny has his girl, Maude.

Jacobi has his two hens,Mouse and Tal,.

and Boris has Sage, and as far as she's concerned, Junna has Boris LOL.

and ofcourse, Squeaks has Rosilee

so yeah, I think they do have favorites.

tis kinda cute

I noticed my mallard drake went after my khaki bad. :hmm;
FREAKED OUT if they were separated...
He would protect her (to a degree) and follow her around ect.
He would mate with the others too, but Cadbury was his favorite.

Finally I got sick of him bullying the crap out of my black Indian runner drake, so I sold them both after I got my silver appleyard trio.

Well, it sounds like it's pretty likely they've paired off based on what I'm reading here. I wasn't able to observe them much today as I was gone most of the day, but I'll be watching to see if they hang together. It'll be interesting to watch the way the relationships develop between them.
