I found a teeny, tiny egg in the chicken yard today. About a quarter of the size of a normal egg but perfect. Any one have a similar experience?

That happens with new layers or sometimes an experienced layer will have a little "oops" egg. I think I saw someone call them "poot eggs" too.

Are your girls young and new to laying?

YES!! I got one last summer after my 2-3 year old SLW had a close encounter with the canine kind and the next day she laid a mini egg! I like to tell people she did it because she was mad at me for not letting her out of the run for the next few days (until I was sure the neighbors' dog wasn't around).

The egg on the left is the mini and the one on the right is from the same hen.

That hen is 3-4 years old now and she still gives me 4-5 eggs each week.

My hens are 1.5 years old so neither at the beginning or the end of the laying careers. Chickens are always interesting.
