This weekend I let the girls out and picked up my banty cochin for a bit. She's been so wet & miserable in the wet Seattle weather lately. She's just a black little mud ball... poor thing.
After I went inside I found a mite on me!
So the next day DBF and I examined all 3 of the standards for any signs of parasites: under wings & around vent. Nuttin. Absolutely nuttin.
Last we picked up the muddy wee banty and DBF's hands were covered with crawling dots. Poor, miserable wee Tribble!
Ever since the discovery I've dusted the wee banty with DE twice. Tonight I guess I get to foray into the territory of chicken bathing, Sevin dust, and a total coop clean-out.
question 1:
Will bleach kill the mites hidden in the coop's nooks & crannies?
question 2:
Will trimming the feathers on her legs help her stay drier? She's a low-rider, with legs that are maybe 2 inches long or so (hard to tell on a feathered bowling ball).
