Tell me about quails

I find these birds fascinating. Can anyone tell me what is special about raising quail? What are the ways to house them? What are they like themselves? My property is mostly on a fragile soil area and although I am petitioning to raise some chickens on the 1/2 acre that is flat and fertile (not erosion prone) I may not succeed. So I am looking into other birds.

I say a picture of day old button quail sitting in the cupped hands of someone Their was 8 to 10 of them! That makes me want them more although for practicality I would need to run some jumbos for real eating.

Wow! I am so in love with these birds. I see that I am going to have to start building cages. Any recommendation on systems of housing?

At the top of the page, there is a search tool. If you have any "specific" questions about quail, there is a good chance that it has been asked before, (especially if your asking about keeping chickens and quail together

). Also, just above the forums, there is a link to "Sticky threads", which is basically threads that should never go away. There is some really good reading in that area.
