Tell me about your Australorps!

I would enter Barbie in the quickest egg laying contest any day... She waits til she can't hold it any longer then runs in the coop and less than 5 minutes she is back out scratching and pecking

I have 3. 2 are still laying for me, even in this cold yucky winter

The other decided that she wanted to be a mommy again, and is currently sitting on a non-fertile egg

She was on some that were growing, but I removed them tonight and put them in the incubator as they are getting close to hatch. She is the nicest broody hen I have. One of my bantam cochin girls went broody and she was the meanest hen ever. In fact, I think she grew horns while she was sitting

All of my australorps lay nice big eggs and are never mean to my other chickens.

Here's Mommy hen earlier this summer... Fawning over 4 month old chicks there are 3 chicks under her at this point!

I only have one roo, but I love him. He was supposed to be a BR hen when I got him, but he is such a good boy I kept him. He doesn't fight with the other boys and watches over the banty/baby run. He free-ranges, but chooses to stay right near that run and protect them. If he wasn't so big I'd keep him in with them.
