Tell me about your black Australorps.........

I just bought a new flock of them as chicks. 13 pullets and 1 roo
I did research them before getting them and know they are great egg layers. Are their personalities like orpingtons. I know they used the australorp to breed the black orp. Please show me some pics of your australops.

Sorry that I dont have any pics of them but what I can tell you is that they are very docile,they love following you around the yard there good foragers they can be a lil flighty at times but ovrall there a loving good foraging chicken,Oh ya I almost forgot they lay brown eggs that are tinted with some white.I hope you enjoy your austrolorps as much as i enjoyed mine

mine are rescue birds, the chortle at me and coo at me very friendly. I love them. One even recovered after being hauled off by an owl.

Here are some of ours at 5 weeks. I just posted this picture somewhere else, so ignore if you've already seen it.

We have 8 hens and 1 roo. You can see him in the front with the shorter tail and red comb.

We are enjoying ours. They aren't old enough yet for me to tell you about their egg-laying habits. They are a bit skittish if we move too fast around them, but as long as we sit still or move slowly, they don't run from us. They are very sweet and gentle when we pick them up to love on them.

Our roo is a little more feisty than the girls when we pick him up, but he's not too bad. (He will flap his wings and make noises like we are trying to kill him.) "The ladies," as we call them, are very sweet when we handle them.

The hen in my avatar was my BA. I loved her. She was the most personable chicken and was always first in line anytime I came out with treats. She loved to be petted and was just the sweetest chicken ever. But when she went broody, she scared me. That chicken could growl!

I miss her.
