Tell me about your Khaki Campbells!

I have Khaki crosses and although I love them they do like to run. I wouldn't count on them being "herded" in for the night...I have mine in a coop like setup. They just started laying in the last few days and each morning I wake up I am greeted by a lovely egg

I love my Drake, he is soooo protective of his girlfriend. She will go lay in their igloo (I got them dog igloos) and he will lay in the doorway with his butt hanging out to protect her. He loves to sleep with his head nestled into her wings too. He shows his love

He is a gorgeous boy too, he has a dark head, blueish beak, fawn body with blue mixed in. He is by far my favorite duck. Personality wise he sucks tho lol!

I think I remember reading somewhere that khakis lay 300 eggs a year...so they pretty much stop for the winter and lay an egg each day all spring/summer/fall long! I'll grab some pictures later today, as I need help sexing my scovie (which I think is a female!)

I got some as adults and they were NOT friendly AT ALL. However, the hen, Janet, was great. Fantastic layer AND she chased squirrels!!! She would not allow them in the HER yard. She got injured by the jerk drake and she died. Now that the squirrels are destroying my garden again I really miss her. The cats, not so much. She chased them too

My 8 months old girl Beaker is a Khaki Campbell x Cayuga mix. She's wonderful. I got her at 4 months old. At a little over 5 months old, she started laying. She's an egg laying machine. She lays maybe 5 or 6 eggs out of 7 days. A couple of times she's laid 3 eggs in less than 24 hours!

I spend a CRAZY amount of time with my ducks, so they are very affectionate (I realize that you aren't concerned about that though). She's my snuggle bunny.

Two weeks ago I was hatching a few of her ducklings in an incubator. She could hear them peeping inside their shells. She decided to be broody. I've been amazed that she'd been very serious about sitting on her clutch of eggs.

A week ago I put 2 artificially incubated eggs that are due to hatch on Monday underneath her, along with her 3 other eggs (I took out a few eggs so the clutch wouldn't be so large...for awhile, she kept laying another egg as soon as I would remove one). I looked this morning and one has internally pipped, while the other one has externally pipped! Yea, Beaker!

And I like your avatar. I've had Papillons since 1982. I've currently got 3, one of which turned 18 years old last October. No wonder you don't need lap ducks, you've got Papillons.

EXACTLY SO! All they are good for is lap cuddling!

Today I let my duckies out again in the yard. They follow me around and come when I call (mostly)...I didn't even try to hold them or touch them. They went to work right away on the slugs

I can't believe who big they are getting!

I have had my khaki cambell, Jeepers, for about a year now. He is a male, you can tell by the curly feather on the tail and the darker head. He is a noisy adorable creature who loves attention. When he was little he imprinted on me. He used to peep nonstop if I were to hide my face for a while until I showed it again. Jeepers is a life time memory that I will always love!

I have seven khakis...four are pure...three are khaki x welsh crosses...all were raised from dayolds by me. My experience is opposite of everyone elses...they are free ranging but are not scared of me or my weimeraners. They even come when called if they are ranging in the yard. Maybe its because they got lots of peas ;) and were younger than my pekins who taught them the ropes so to speak.
They lay tons of eggs...and are the best bug catchers. The pekins are more comical, but the khakis are more alert to whats going on around them. Perfect combo for ranging because if something is not quite right, the khakis let everyone know it.
