Tell Me About Your Loner Chicken

krcote- Judy Chicken is so pretty? What breed?

I have a Buff Orp named Rose that is low man on the totem pole, and sometimes is alone but it is not her preference. Her BFF is the RIR she grew up with, but the RIR is kind of indifferent. When we had a roo he beat up on her a lot and did not seem to ever breed her, but now that he is gone she is not pecked on-- just has to sleep lower on the roost and gets pushed away from the treats.

My EE Lavender is a loner too.
Partly by choice (she's always broody) and partly because everyone picks on her.
The other hens aren't mean to her. They just all need to remind her, all the time, that she is the lowest one in the pecking order.
If she walks by it's -Peck, peck, peck, peck (tiny peck from Pippa a Sebright who's tiny).

I have one black sex link who never leaves the coop, cuz they all peck her. I also have 4 banties that never leave the coop cuz the standards pick on them too. I feel sorry and I am trying to sell them, so they have a chance at a life without getting too picked on. Some of my bantams do get along ok with the standards, but half do not.

I was told she may be a Lakenvelder. If you look up pics of this breed she does look similar, but maybe she has something else in her too? Who knows, I love her and I can't find any others that look even similar!

Ophelia is a Welsummer, doesn't hang around with the other chickens, is always sort of in the back of the crowd, about a foot detached from everyone else. Loves people though!

I have a chantecler that on the norm refuses to be part of the flock. She is one of my original birds so it's not like she was added later and doesn't fit in. She just has a free range streak. She does seem a little stuck up sometimes....

She is an awesome broody and will lead her chicks all over the neighborhood. I've tried everything to break this habit but once she goes to a nesting spot I spend the rest of the year trying to force her back to the coop.
I capture her at night put her in the coop and lock her down and first thing in the morning when the pop door opens she goes right to the fence and over she goes about her business. Although since we have had the arctic blast of well below zero temps she is sticking to the flock.... won't last long though...lol.

Last year I bought some dark brahma eggs for her to sit on and raise. This year I will let her broody ways raise me another batch of new blood.

I have a loner hen. She came to live here on her own, just showed up in my yard one day. She never hangs out with the other hens, does not put herself away at night with the rest, she sleeps under the barn. At first she slept in a tree, then in the barn, now under the barn. She is free to leave whenever she wants, there are plenty of other chickens in the neighborhood. She chooses to live here, and chooses to be alone. But, I think she really wants babies. I do not know where she came from, and there are roosters around here that she could go see, but she doesn't. And she has been here for over a year now.

now that's too cool. She must really love you to stay there with you. I have one that has just started being a loner and I'm worried about her/him because she just started doing this. I THINK it's a she because it's not quite 3 months old yet and it's a black australorp. It didn't go out to free range today with the rest of them and then when I fed them it didn't go eat although it did eat some boss I threw over there in the pine straw before I fed them.
