Tick, I got my first Coturnix back in 1964, from Marsh Farm he import them, and sold them as Pharoh. He add other colors the next few years.
Feed a Gamebird layer. They will start laying at 6 weeks,if you give them light(16 hr.) each hen will lay about 300 eggs per year.

I had best luck breeding in trios.

You can raise them like weeds, if you start with 10 hens and 5 males. Thats about 50 eggs a week with 80% + hatch rate. Those chicks will begin laying at 6 weeks. As you see you can have thousands in one year.

Two type of larger Coturnix, A&M white, Jumbo Brown. These 2 get to about a pound.

will hens ever go broody?

Yes they will go broody if in a large flight pens, just like Ringneck Pheasants some will go broody, but hatching in a incubator are the best.

Theres jumbo golden too

you can make any color strain a jumbo with time and pacients. I know of a breeder working on jumbo tibetans (british range). I plan to make my full color flocks jumbo...hopefully by the end of summer- beg. of fall 09'.
