Tell me I can do this... Please?

Hey, Amylou, there are some coops in the coop design section that may be close to what you want. Some of these designs may help your case with your dad, or help you make any adjustments you need to make. But, what I do know is that being a girl has nothing to do with it. You can do it! Good luck and please post picture of your progress along the way

Of course you can do it yourself. But if someone else with building experience is suggesting you make changes to your design, I'd want to understand the reasoning behind those suggestions before I rejected them out of hand.

A smart person learns from her own mistakes. An even smarter person learns from someone else's mistakes. I was young once, too, and thought my way was always the best way. I'm older now, and I know better.

Oh yes, as long as you can operate the required tools safely, FOR SURE you can absolutely definitely do this

One suggestion -- if you are kind of on your own, there would be some big advantages to using plans from a shed-building book, rathter than freelancing your own designs. You can get DIY shed-building books from libraries and bookstores that have super detailed plans and materials lists and incredibly well illustrated step by step instructions. Highly recommend

Good luck, have fun,

You can do it yourself. I am sure you will be able to figure out exactly what you need. You do no have to use deck screws for this just screws that are for exterior projects. Deck screws cost more and often require unusually shaped drill bits. Remember everyone on here will help you as much as we can if you get stuck on something. Post pics also. You can find plans for a purina coop on here someplace. One of these posts had a link to it. Was basic and pretty easy. Good Luck! We can't wait to see what you build.

Just build it, and have fun! My husband helped me build mine and he kept getting fustrated and mad because things weren't lining up. I kept telling him, paint will cover it up and if that doesn't work the chickens will poo on it and you'll never notice it. It's for chickens, they won't care what it looks like

You most certainly CAN, of course! Especially if you give yourself the additional time to think things through and figure out problems as you go. I just built one a year or so back myself w/ VERY simple tool layout (basically a drill and skill saw), and almost no carpentry experience (e.g. taught myself how to use a skill saw during the process, etc.). Turned out great, and I had a lot of fun with it -- and you will too!

We're all here to help if you have any questions...
