Tell me what to look for! ameraucana/EE

I have both EEs and Ameraucanas from breeders and love them all. I just lost my oldest blue Ameraucana today at the age of 4. She and her daughter both always wanted to be held and cuddled. My Ameraucanas are the blue, black and splash variety and I've had a blue wheaten Ameraucana cockerel who was just gorgeous. You won't go wrong with EEs or Ameraucanas.

It's just that the hatcheries don't sell the actual Ameraucana breed, if that is what you really want to have, but they don't tell you that.

She means you won't find birds that meet the breed standard for Ameraucanas. You will find easter eggers, they will be sold as ameraucanas at the feed stores. They'll usually lay blue or green eggs, esp if you get one with a pea comb. If you're wanting a true ameraucana, you'll need to go to a breeder. Most of us just want the colored eggs, the muffs are cool, too!

OHHH ok, that is okay with me....But the thing is, there is a wonderful breeder here in NH who has BEAUTIFUL birds and I am totally tempted to get a flock of quality true americuana's but I am not patient, they wont hatch till the 27th, they are 90 mins plus away, gas is CRAZY and they are not too cheap!! obviously I dont expect them to be as cheap, you get what you pay for most of the time, but all things considered, i just cant decide to try my luck at the feed store, to drive for these true ones, or order from meyer? Any votes either way!? Thank u!!

I had the same problem,... then I walked into TSC two days ago and their featured weekly breed was ameraucana so i ended up with the twelve babies they had left! my first chickies!
