I wish we could buy a temp/humid gauge we could trust and it didn't cost a lot of money....here is what I have....a used laboratory incubator....new it's $2,200, with a microprocessor thermostat, digital Celsius readout....I also own a new Helix DBS 1000 Proportional Temperature Control System (thermostat) ( $130 )used by the reptile people. I called the company that made the incubator because their unit wasn't matching the Helix or the ( $20 ) Radio Shack digital temp/hum.
They said their unit needs to be recalibrated and to use the Helix as being the correct temp....now everything is fine. Apparently these inexpensive temp/hum gauges can be 2 degrees either way for temp and 5% either way for humidity....I was told that by Accu-temp...industry standards they say....I guess if the egg has anywhere between 98 - 103 for short periods of time, turning and correct humidity we should be OK...the mother hen does stay on the eggs 24/7 so her egg temp must fluctuate as well.
