I have 39 Ringneck Pheasant eggs going into lockdown on tuesday, (may 1st) and 11 turkey and 12 more Ringneck eggs going into lockdown on wednesday, (may 2nd).

I have 4 LG's, 2 w/fan and auto turners, (what the eggs are in now) and 2 still Air, (what the eggs will be transfered to for lockdown.

Ringneck eggs have been incubated at 99.5* and water resivoirs kept filled. The Turkey eggs have been incubated between 99* and 99.5*, water resivoirs also kept filled. I have not checked the humidity in these incubators during the incubation period.

I have read and been told that the temps for incubation in a forced air incubator and a still air are different, (I.E. forced air should be kept at 99.5* and the still air should be kept at 102*.

I set up the Still Airs today and plugged them in so I could get the temps and humidity stabilized for lockdown on tuesday and wednesday, but I am not sure what the temps should be for each bird. I know that the humidity during lockdown should be somewhere around 65-80 but I am only getting readings of 55% in one bator and 58% in the other. (temps in both are steady at 102*).

Can someone please tell me,

1.) what temp I should use for Ringneck Pheasants and Turkeys in a Still Air incubator during lockdown?

2.) what my humidity should be for each bird?, and

3.) How do I increase the humidity in my lockdown bators.

I am going into panic mode here. I don't want to lose my entire hatch after all this time because of wrong temps and humidity. PLEASE ADVISE.

Thank you,

Tim

Hey Tim,
When I have used the still air incubator I had my temps at around a 100 for my ringnecks but I have never hatched Turkeys
Also a VERY BIG thing and VALUABLE thing I learned is put sponges in there and it will raise your humidity a great deal. It will absorb the water faster but it works very well. You can also use the plastic eggs from easter and fill them up and place in some holes for more to increase the humidity.
Good Luck with your hatch and let me know if this helps or anything else.

Hi Patty, and thank you.

I have my temps at 99-100*. My humidity is between 69 and 81. I have 2, 1/2 pint mason jars filled with water and sponges in them in both of the LG's I am using as hatchers.

1 Blueback Ringneck hatched this morning, 1 about 45 minutes ago and 4 more have externally pipped. 1 of the pipped eggs is a Chinese Ringneck. Today is day 23 for them. I am hoping I get a lot more than the 2 that have hatched and the 4 that have pipped to hatch. Those 39 eggs weren't cheap!!!

The 2 Bluebacks that have hatched were, believe it or not, upside down in the egg. They both pipped at the small end of the egg and 2 of the 4 I have hatching right now are the same way, upside down

I have 32 Blueback Ringneck and 7 Chinese Ringneck eggs in one LG hatcher and 12 Black Ringneck, 6 Rio Grande and 5 Eastern turkey in the other LG hatcher. (The 12, 6 and 5 are due to hatch tomorrow...saturday). I also have 7 Bourbon Red turkey eggs that are going into lockdown tomorrow.

The problem I am having right now is that the mouth of the 1/2 pint mason jars are pretty wide and the pheasant chicks keep finding their way into the water in the jars....lol. I have to stay with them until they have dried to keep them out of the jars of water.

Thank you again Patty. I will keep you posted on the hatch(es).
