OK here's the deal. I am on day 13 and up untile now my temp's have been pretty steady at 100.2-100.6 no problems with humidity other than the normal. Last night I go in and check the bator and my temp's are 101.3, I freak, call me paranoid. So I adjust it just alittle it goes down to 100.8. So I leave it alone for the rest of the night. I get up this morning and it is101.3, so what do I do? I have a accurite temp/hygro. in there and the therm. that came with the bator( it is reading just a little over 100) How high is to high for the temp? Do I need to adjust it again or leave it alone? I have 23 eggs and 22 of them are growing very well. I do not want to mess this up, please help.

If you have a still air incubator, those temps are just fine. If it has a fan, you want to get it down closer to 99.5 F. Do you have a model with a wafer or electronic thermostat also? The wafer could be going bad and need to be replaced. Keep a close eye to try and keep it stable.

Yeah-they temps can jump around 14 days since teh little guys start producing some heat on their own. Dont worry, Im am sure they are absolutely fine. Mom cant adjust her body temp at day 14!!!

Hey Jody I have a Hova Bator with a fan and yes it has a wafer. This is the very first time it is being used. Do you think it could be the wafer?

See if you can loosen the wing nut and turn the temp back a bit..then retighten the wing nut gently. I would try to get it just under 100. If every time you turn it down, it climbs back up to 101, that is a sign the wafer is going bad. I always keep 3 backups as you never know when it's going to happen and it will typically happen when you have eggs in there. Go figure. The wafer may have a slow leak...I would find some wafers just in case.

It could also be the normal development of the chicks producing more heat, but if you turn the heat back..it should stabilize. Keep us posted.

ok. today is a new day right.....well I was hoping that I would get that temp. right on the bator but no luck. It has been staying at 101.3 all day. well finally this afternoon it was at 99.9 WOOHOOO! wrong the probe to the thermometer had fell down just a little lower from where it has been sitting and that is why the temp went down as soon as i put it back in it's spot then the temp went right back up to 100.8. Now if it stay's at 100.8 I should be ok. But I have a feeling that It will be right back up in just a little while. I have the probe egg level in between 2 eggs (not touching the egg's though). Is that where it should be? that is where it has been from the beginning. Would I be getting 2 differnet reading's. I have a forced air bator.
