Temp ranges for peafowl

I live in the north and that being said our winters can have temps -40 for a week or two max, but average -20 to -30 celcius. is that too cold of a range to keep peafowl? they either could live in a 8x8 insulated building alone, or in one with chickens and guinea hens. I think I know the answer, but call it wishful thinking. currently there is no heat in said buildings

Although it is known for IBs to tolerate some -40C temps in the winter the wise owners have enclosed and sometimes insulated coops for their birds. An 8x8 is not going to cut it in my book even for a single pea.

How big of a insulated coop do they need? Im curiously checking this out as an idea to possibly own

Central WI here. I have heat for both my blues and greens. I don't keep the buildings they're in "warm" they are sitting around 50 all winter but they are well lit by natural sun. We do not use any kind of heat tape or heat lamps. Instead my dad likes to tinker so we hooked up a hot water heater to circulate warm water through both the perches and a blower.

Prior to doing this we did lose a few birds a year to hypothermia. Even India blues. Many people say they are hardy and given their original range they are BUT there's cold and then there's upper midwest, Canada, and New England cold.

I house my Peafowl in a large calving barn for the winter with 4 different pens inside it. The barn is not heat, but is insulated. I can house somewhere around 120 birds in it. The birds produce a lot of heat. On the warm days I turn on the fan to deal with the dust and humidity. When it’s -40 Celsius outside, the barn is about -10 Celsius. Most of the winter the water doesn’t freeze, but on the coldest days I use heated dog watering bowls. How big of a coop you want to build would depend on how many birds you want to house and how much room you want to give them. I let my young peas run the length of the barn and they love the space. Everyone’s facilities are different and it’s finding what works for you and your birds. I should also note that my barn has windows so that the birds keep in touch with the natural light as to not throw off their cycles.

I also don’t keep any greens or high percentage Spalding. I do have one mid level Spalding hen and she does well with my set up.
