temp regulating problems

First batch everyone died due to a high temp when I left to go to town and came back it was 104!! But this second batch is doing great! The temp is still fluctuating but not as much as first now the gap is between 97-102 at all times. Humidity is now giving me a problem though!!! But the eggs look good and are developing real good and at a normal rate got babies due the 21st!
whats up with humidity?

This is why a thermastat is very important. Unless you can sit and baby sit your incubator 9 out of 10 youll end up with temp spikes . I know it seems complacted and costs a little money but its really worth it especally if your spending money on eggs. But eeven if your not I hate the thougght of how many babies die due to my lack of knowlage when I first started . WIth sally 's info and her video tutorual anyone can do it I can even figure it out and I can barely use a screw driver.

I have three small jars half full with "pads" ( believe it or not they are working better for me then a sponge did) and water and I can't get the humidity to go above 36 even with adding scolding hot water. UGH. I have to figure this out before lockdown!

That's why after this batch I'm going to hunt down a wafer thermastat! :) and I'm the same way when it comes to things that way! Ha!

What happens if you hang a damp rag along the side of the bator down towards the bottom? and if your worried about it drying, and it will, perhaps so the bottom is in a long rectangle containger of water but you have to add marbles or make it high enough so peeps cant drown... so hard telling you what I "see" lol or maybe if you use more of a handtowel you can leave alot on the outside of the bator and wet it and perhaps the rag will draw the water into the part inside the bator like a wick???? just thinkin to help

I took the smaller jars out and add a deep rectangular dish, hopefully it'll work. I'll try the rag thing if it don't work to well. The hubby says if I can get these guys to make it to hatchg day he'll buy me a real bator! Haha. Which means I only have 4 days left!!!!! Can't wait to get some peepin babies!

Quote: YAY!!! I love the coolerbator my DH and daughter made! the link and info is in my signature... its awesome and I wouldnt trade it for a bought model ANYDAY!!

oh and reminder that Humidity is upped my surface area not depth.... keep that in mind KIT!! exciting times!! Again I have a ton of links in my signature with all my notes and info in them! your welcome to them anytime!

Sally is right," Humidity is upped by surface area not depth",the larger the diameter of your dish the more evaporation,a square or rectangular dish has more surface area than a round one of the same size.

I have the humidity and the temp perfect now! I used the damp rag idea and it worked perfectly though isntead of drapping it I folded it up and placed it in the dish with HOT water and its staying higher now!
