Temperature gun for incubating eggs.

I didn't have a whole lot of luck checking ONLY the incubator though it did tell me the temp of the eggs, and every other surface. For air temp we ended up trying DHs BBQ thermometer. Had a separate probe for air temp.

I was going to return my thermometers and buy and ear or forehead one and place an egg in and see what it measures. Probably a stupid question from over worrying but if the incubator should be 99.5 that means the eggs should read 99.5 as well?
 
The bad thing about these cheap guns, IMHO, is that you can have a 4 degree swing in tolerance. That’s per the manual. I have a FLIR that I use for other stuff but don’t mess with the incubators with it.
