AAARGH! My Forced-Air hovabator has been pretty tried and true for me in the past. Dusted it off for my first half of the season only to find that both the thermometers I used last year were broken (Well, one was broken and the other had a gap in the red stuff, so it doesnt tell you the temp right)

No worries, I have a temp indicator on my Auto pumping system that I use for humidity.

That reads 39.5 degrees C - Wait, that's 103 degrees! Crappity crap...

I head out to the hardware store and buy one of those indoor thermometers with an outdoor probe and the "old faithful" normal thermometer. Get back home and break the "old faithful" getting it out of the package. DOH!

No worries, I still have the other.....Pug it in and put the probe right by the other probe from the pump and let it steady for the night...

And it reads 98.3 F

OH COME ON....SERIOUSLY?

Either one of them is right or they are both wrong.

Suggestions? I have ten eggs in there (No lectures please on making sure it is set up, blah blah blah....I had to) and they are all progressing fine (have been in a week and a half)

Should I just go buy more thermometers? It is getting to be a thermometer incubator with some eggs on the side....

I'm having the same issue right now. We started a batch Sunday in our incubator we used last year. The main dial therm says 99, a flat therm laying on eggs shows 103, and a probe therm I inserted thru styrofoam says 96. :(. What should I do? It is a circulated air type.

Also in a related note what is the optimum humidity? Ours runs 70-80%

I just ran to the hardware store and bought 4 more of the cheap thermometers - one digital and three of the classic kind. (all dry bulb!)

I ran into issues with humidity stability in the past when I was breeding serama, which are kind of notoriously sensitive (which is why I bought the auto humidity pump)

I have the best success with 50% humidity until week 3, when I raise it to 65%, then 72% on the last three days.

But this is easy for me now that I have the pump. WELL worth the price. (and piece of mind!)
