I am getting ready to set my first eggs, I have a Little Giant still air incubator. I plugged it in and adjusted the temp, it is holding at about 101*F. Do you think that is okay, or should it be higher or lower? And should I add the water now, or wait till I put the eggs in? I was planning on putting them in Fri pm.

Thanks.

101 is good for a LG that’s what I have. You need to check your humidity and make sure that’s ok. Did you do that and can you test it. For the first 18 days it should be between 35 to 50. Then the last 3 days try and get it to 65-70. Good luck, I started mine on the 14th.

I got a thermometer/hygrometer thing at the store, and it says 20% humidity (I haven't added any water yet) and the temp stays between 100.5 and 101.3F. The mercury thermometer that came with it has a temp of about 103 or 104F. So which one do I go by? Or should I go for a temp between what the 2 say?

And what do you use to candle your eggs? I don't seem to have a light bright enough to see through the brown eggs.

Thanks!

I heard 100.8 was good for LF birds. I go a little under a 100 to be safe. Seems to make no difference in the numbers of what I hatch out. I do a variation of the dry incubation method. I startout around 65% humidity, let it drop to around 30% and refill. Then at 18 days I make sure the humidity is as high as I can get it.

I wouldn't get your humidity above 70. You could drown the chicks. You could go to Wal Mart and get a mag flash light. That works good to candle.

don't want to hijack...BUT, where do you put the water, i'm guessing i have the same bator, its a LG still air so it must be close. I'v been putting a pan of water on the netting but i'm guessing this is wrong...

i have a hova bator, and it has a plastic trey in the bottom. the lg should have one also.
