I plan on overwintering my hens under an overhang in my backyard which is attached to the back of my garage. There are post which support it, I would wrap some heavy duty plastic around them staple,or nail it in place, and cut a door in the plastic. I would weigh the plastic down with heavy stone.in addition to this I would temporarily move their little chicken coop in there. Does this idea sound feasible and will it last through the winter? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! 😊

I am located in Western New York. I will provide ventilation

If they have a coop, I don't think they need all that protection outside of the coop, especially since it would be right next to a building.

How many chickens are we talkin' here? How big is the "little coop"? And what are the dimensions of this plastic thing-a-ma-bobber you're planning to rig? Do you have pictures? Like @Sally PB mentioned, of you get snow, wind, blowing rain, etc. you're going to have some pretty unhappy birds. Also, predators get extra hungry in the winter, stapled plastic with rocks on it is not going to keep ANYTHING out.

Perhaps a hoop coop would be a better solution...
