temps droping A LOTTTTT tonight ... question

Last night and today was COLD here. The news said -7, but that's downtown. Here in the country my thermometer read -12. Wind chills -35. Went out to check on the birds last night, my little Bantam was looking pretty cold. I got fresh straw, packed her in, changed out the water, filled up the feed. Came out this morning at 5 AM, the little banty was the first one to greet me at the door. Gave them water (that I'm sure froze quickly), went to work until 3:30 PM, and they all eagerly charged me when I opened the coop. (I kept them locked up the last two days, much to their dislike) They ran around and did their thing, and now I have them dug in for the night again, until it warms up tomorrow. I was so surprised how well they handled the extreme temps. Very tough birds. No frost bite that I could see, and very active.

We all made it thru the cold. Yea!!! :) now its time to dig out my coops from the snow since its supposed to be upper 30 s by the weekend. Mine are on the ground so they'll be flooded if I don't get the snow away before it melts :( pack it up one day pull it down the next. Lol. Michigan @($+%/'+%

I'm doing the same thing... I had it over half way up e side of my 8' tall coop and today I have to go dig them out... lol I dug a little bit yesterday, my DH is quite mad at me when he found out, but it had to be done and he works till real late so its left to me to do, ( I have a bad heart and was not supposed to out in it, let alone shoveling snow... I'm stubberen that way )
our grils will be so thrilled to be able to go outside and scratch and get some running room.... anyone else have chickens that like to run? my do it all the time.
