It's been a very hot, dry summer here in the NW and for the last couple weeks, termites have been taking flight in the early evening and my chooks are loving every minute of it!
They have taken to staying out longer than usual in the evening just to partake in the termite fest. It's like a comedy show watching them literally hunting for termites. They will be standing and looking around and then spot one 6-8 feet away and take off at a dead run to catch it. Lots of jumping in the air too. It's gotta be good exercise for them!
I've never seen them get so excited all at the same time, other than treat time! I watched one hen that is particularly good at catching them and I counted 15 termites eaten within 10 minutes.
As much as I don't like termites, I have to admit I'll be a little sad when the nightly comedy show comes to an end.
