Terrier/cocker mix w/skin problem...Ideas?

Until you can get further diagnosis; it will help - this is an inside dog, I'm assuming -- wipe down his feet every single time he goes out & comes back in - use the hypoallergenic baby wipes, or if nothing else, just damp paper towel - but cleaning the feet helps.

Salmon oil capsules (human grade works just fine) in the food might help if the allergy is being aggravated by dry scaly skin.

I'll second the food-changing bit, just to see what it does. Give it a good month or two - skin allergies take a long time to manifest and a long time to subside. I've also used homeopathic sulphur on a temporary basis to calm really itchy doggy skin, but be sure to talk to someone knowledgeable about dose, first.

I have a cocker, we have to be very careful about food.

I would look for grain free-chicken free food. Remember that covers treats too.

If you are still having issues in a month, I think the Vet School at UCDavis has helped several friends with cockers with skin issues

Any way you can post a picture? I will tell you what I use for my Boxer, vet recommended and it works. I now have no problems with his skin and he was a scaly, red, itchy mess. I use Ivomec 1% injectable, given by mouth 1 time a day until the bottle is gone. I would have never thought to use this, but after taking him to 2 different vets, and coming up short, I was willing to try anything. Vet said, you have to treat from the inside as well as the outside. So if this is not a food issue, Ivomec might do the trick. They say "white feet, don't treat"....so, that is something to consider also. I hope you can figure out the problem. I know he/she is uncomfortable. Goodluck!

Thanks for all the replies! This is my first itchy/scaly dog. I always felt sorry for people with allergic dogs, now here I am! I'll switch back to TOTW first, but I know it can take over a month to see any changes. Our vet did do a cytology scrape, hence the antibiotics and special shampoo regimine. I sure hope he's not allergic to his environment
