So cute! I hope my Eggland's best egg hatches, I tried to check yesterday if one from the fridge was fertile, but the yolk is so runny it is hard to see the blasterdisk thingy. California whites are leghorns, and leghorns lay white eggs. This little girl came from a brown egg, so she isn't a california white.

This was Safeway, the first chick that I ever hatched. I bought a dozen brown fertile eggs
(Rock Island brand in Petaluma CA) at Safeway grocery store and put 3 eggs into one of those cheap little yellow plastic incubators. I dutifully turned the eggs for about a week and then totally forgot about them (my bad). I didnt remember the incubator until the day after some furniture had been moved around.... it had been unplugged and set on a bookcase. No water for humidity, no turning, no temp control..... and there he was, hatching. Really amazing.

I called the egg company to ask what kind of bird he was and they told me that their hens are RIRs and their roosters are Leghorns.

Safeway grew into a very very large, somewhat psycho, rooster who regularly got his butt kicked by the half banty roo from next door. LOL. Unfortunately, he developed the habit of attacking me from behind every time I had my hands full carrying stuff and, well, you know what happens to mean roosters.
