Test Hatch with PaulaJoAnne's eggs!! PIP!!

Well, you have heard the saying that "a watched pot never boils", but I have a new saying: a watched egg never pips. This is making me insane. The temps have been perfect And the humidities couldn't have held steadier. Candling showed great development...and they just sit there and stare back at me. Aaaaaargh!!! Okay, in their defence day 21 starts an hour from now. I guess I was hoping for ambitious chicks that were tired of their confinement.

. I keep reminding myself that my timing is not God's timing and He is never late.

Oh well!
Seems like eggs under a broody hatch a wee bit earlier then those in a bator.
The more I research, the more convinced I am, that we need to raise chicks the way God designed them to be raised.
I am very thankful we have a broody for those chickies when they hatch.
Watching the mama hen and her chicks we have right now, is awesome. The started eating within hours of hatching, and she feeds them all the time.
I only have to watch over her, making sure she has everything she needs to take care of them.

Take care, and go for a long walk

I was staring into the bator for the umpteenth time and low and behold #40 rocked end to end. I thought I must be seeing things or dreaming so I didn't say anything to my kids until it happened again!! Ofcourse once it happened it decided that was performance enough. Maybe by morning we will have something or things to report.

We have a pip this morning!!! It is #27. I thought for sure it would be #40. My DH doesn't want me to go to Soldotna toaydue to high avalanche danger so I guess we will get to see the hatching show after all.

We have nine pips!!! The chirping is starting too! The rest are enjoying their day at the spa and aren't ready to put forth the effort to come out yet.

This mornng I woke up to 14 chicks, 13 pips and 6 that have not indicated their intentions, one of which I have little hope for. Your Australorp hatched in the night and I can't tell which one it is. I'll keep you posted.

Any of the black ones that have white on their heads, will be the Cuckoo Marans cross. Just a dot will be females, with the ones that have it spread out being males.
According to the breed calculator, the Australorp cross should be black, and it will not have the white head.

Well, we are up to 21 chicks. They keep faking me out by sitting on the temp probe so I keep thinking we are having a temp spike. I think they are laughing at me.

We picked up our hatch today for BirdBrain, and as soon as we got home, we went ahead and put all 27 of them under our broody. I pulled the two eggs she had been sitting on for the last 10 days, and she was ver happy to make the switch!
It will be interesting to see how she deals with that many babies

Right now, they all fit after a fashion

A week from now? I bet she just floats on top of them!

I will get pics of them on Monday!
