Testing for showing.

I was wondering how do you get your poultry tested for shows? Do you have to get a vet to do it or is there some special person for this. I am interested in showing and i know you have to have your birds tested for diseases but I dont know how to do it or even where to start. Also do yall know anyone around south texas that could. I have two vets here in cuero but i do not know if they work with poultry or not. Thanks

What you are referencing is testing through the National Poul;try Improvement plan {NPIP}. It's a federal Program administered by the states & it is handled differently in each state. I'd suggest that you contact your state Department of Agriculture for guidance.

Definately call the dept of ag. In NJ we have to have the birds tested for pullorum. There are certified people all throughout the state. I have never paid for this test and have had it done several times. Most states require that the testing is within 30 days of being shown. It is not very difficult, look into it. Best of luck.

When I show in NJ, they only test some of my flock. When I showed in Mass., they wanted every bird being shown tested. I have only ever had to test for pullorum. At the Mass. show, they visually checked over all the birds prior to them entering the show hall. But not all shows do this.

In Texas, the state is required to test every bird. When you call the state testing agency, they will give you the details. Testing for typoid and/or selling is 25.00 but testing for PIP is free. They will set an appointment and come to your flock. Call your local agriculture agentcy and they will get you started.
