Texas A&M Hatching!

Thats my point......With the facts out there A&M are white birds ,at 14 oz to 16 oz white meat birds.....I have to see one ,but when most people buy A&M thats what they think they are getting........reason I think the name should be drop. IMO. Unless they are white meat coturnix ??? thats what A&M are thought as........A&M ARE NOTHING BUT WHITE COTURNIX , no matter their size IMO.

The really sad thing is I got up to 12-13 ounces on the birds and can't get them larger. Maybe the generation that hatched will prove me wrong.

Did your come from Texas University ? Thing like this link, a white meat quail ??

Well I can tell you that even the original strain I received at OSU (who got them from TAMU) there is no white meat. Lighter meat, but no white meat. I think that TAMU's wants of having white meat birds became what people thought they were, when in fact they stopped researching due to not getting white meat, sent it off and the taboo started. When one of my eldest hens died I processe
d her to find just lighter tinted compared to our Jumbo browns/pharaohs. Just larger white birds. It has merely become a name, white=Texas A and M, sad but true. When I talk about them I sometimes say Jumbo whites/texas A and Ms just so people know what size I am talking about because believe me there are some measly sized birds out there

I am not saying they are not any large white coturnix.........I just think they need another name because A&M IS THAT WHITE MEAT BIRD , OR PEOPLE THINK SO. like the bobs some are name by the size of the bird. The Name A&M name is misused all the time, reason I would like to see it dropped, know that will not happen......I can dream...A&M are known as white meat birds , and we all know thats not the case.

It was a dream as you said that didn't happen........but thats what is in people mind when they hear A&M Quail......like name as jumbo, giant, at least could set a weight a bird would be to get the name.........

No big deal, I just get tired of all these A&M WHITE MEAT BIRDS BEING SOLD.

THE WHITE MEAT THING IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN PART OF THE MYTH.... THE FINAL RESEARCH STUDY RELEASED BY TAMU NEVER CLAIMED WHITE MEAT--- IT WAS THE MARKETING MYTH THAT WAS PERPETRATED BY THE COMMERCIAL PRODUCERS AFTER RAISING THE BIRDS..... THE ORIGINAL TEXAS A&M WASNT EVEN A WHITE COLORED BIRD WHEN RELEASED, IT WAS A STRAIN OF JUMBO BROWN. TAKE A LOOK AT THE LINKS INCLUDED, YOU'LL FIND THEM INTERESTING

It does say they were light flesh coturnix 10 to 13 oz at 7 weeks.....not like the smaller dark flesh coturnix ???? somewhere someone took that as white meat.....thats like a bronze turkey(dark flesh) white bb turkey (light flesh) to me that mean skin not the meat....

i like the part about the lighting also after the first 3 day......something I knew.......but some don't get it.
