Texas Member List - Updated 1/2010

I live very close to the Gulf Coast and the humidity is BRUTAL! You sweat sitting in the shade doing nothing-never mind trying to work in the yard, etc. Course that does give us a great excuse to sit around the pool and barbecue many hot summer days(too hot to work)

Having said that, the people in this part of Texas are incredibely friendly, spring and fall are awesome and winters(with the exception to the last couple of weeks) are very mild.

Cost of living is great down here-it would look even more so to you coming from California.

Come on down to Texas! "It's like a whole other country".

Whatta ya mean LIKE... it IS a whole 'nother country.

I can remember the humidity when we used to go to Galveston in the summer, brutal is a good word for it.
But, you're right that the folks down that was were wonderful!

In the summer, humid or not, B sweats a LOT. His work shirts end up WHITE from the salt!
So, if you even think about doing yardwork, playing outside, etc. be sure and drink LOTS of water, you'll need it!!

I just have to put my two cents in here. I lived in Houston for 19 years. Definitely humid and pretty hot. I moved up here when I got married and have been here for almost 9 years. I think I like Houston better (crazy I know). I hate the hot summers here because it feels like an OVEN- like you're suffocating. UGH. Then there's the winters. It might be cold and it might be freezing! My kids have seen more snow being raised here than I have in my whole life. Oh and Tornadoes. AHHH! Hurricanes are bad, yes, but you can plan and we just planned to go hang out with other family and made an unplanned vacation. Tornadoes you can't plan for and I don't think I will ever get used to that.

I have lived in Burleson for almost 2 years and I love it. I lived in Watauga (very close to Keller-about 5 minutes from Keller) before that. I would not say the temps are any different really. We've gotten snow in both places and its been hot as heck in both places. I couldn't have chickens in Watauga though

Just my two cents! Oh, I will say, no matter what the weather I will pick Texas over anywhere else!

Jeez Jones... first you lived near my SIL, now you're near my Mom...

Didn't you notice the broomstick on the radar?

Catrina... thanks so much for the list... I've been cruising the Del and Amer topics and checking posters siggy, website, and BYC pages and I did find quite a few... but none nearby. That's incredibly useful info there!!

Quick question:

Is there, has there been, will there ever be, a 'meeting' or 'get together' of Texans? Perhaps by area?

Just curiousl think it would be a great idea to have a cookout or some other such 'put the faces to the names' kinda thing...

I would love that(would even host it) only one problem-Texas is sooo big that we would have to divide it up regionally I think.
Hopefully some others will weigh in on this.

I think getting together is a great idea! Regional or not. We are always up for a road trip

We drive to Alabama on purpose to see family if that tells you anything!

Just a question for you Texans out there...how many of you have lived somewhere that claimed to be the "heart of Texas?" I lived in Jacksonville TX and they claimed it and I lived in Deer Park TX back in high school, they didn't claim it then, but they do now! So WHERE IS the heart of Texas (deep in the heart of Texas!) Ha ha..

FYI -
I have hosted a Texas Chickenstock for the last six years. See My Page for last year's get together. I was really disapointed there were not more members who attended.

I am fairly centrally located for a meeting, but it does not have to be at my place again (unless you want to) ?????
