Perfectly normal. I think they do it on purpose to scare us. Wait till you see her dirt bathe the first time. That's what really shook me up!

One of my babies just started to dirt bath....in the feed bowl...!

Whew! That's a relief. Dirt bathe? Why do they do that? Don't they water bathe like other birds? Chickens sure are odd

Dirt bathing reduces parasites. Wait until you see a baby chick laying on it's stomach with it's head down and its feet straight out the back of it. That'll freak you out too!!

I'm from Jersey though!! That's a gorgeous coop!!! I'm thinking I want to show my hubby ...I want one too!!! I would double with some stronger wire about a foot out from the existing chicken wire and bury it down about a foot in the ground or fold about a foot along the ground. We have predators here that have actually left face prints in coop wire.
